Most of our cross country ski trailheads are less than a 15 minute drive from downtown Crested Butte. Looking for a lesson? Our professional guides will help you learn the basics in technique while also enjoying the beauty of the backcountry.

The word ski comes from the Old Norse word "skíð" which means stick of wood. Skiing started as a technique for traveling cross-country over snow on skis, starting almost five millennia ago with beginnings in Scandinavia. Crested Butte has miles of groomed cross-country nordic trails to experience, or explore deep into the backcountry.
